When a famous Federation scientist dies, his son sells his inventions to the highest bidder, including medical devices, engineering advances, and a powerful photon pulse cannon. The auction draws interest from multiple galactic powers. Meanwhile, Wesley Crusher tries to help his friend but is kidnapped by renegade Ferengi who want to use the cannon to control the universe.
