When a Vulcan space probe reports that the Ferengi are transforming the people of Megara from a primitive agricultural society into a technologically advanced one, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the Starship Enterprise are ordered to transport a ruthless twentieth-century businessman, now a Federation ambassador, to the system.
