They learn that Spock is trying to reunite Vulcan and Romulus with the help of a Romulan underground group. They are captured by Commander Sela, Picard's enemy, who plans to invade Vulcan. The story follows Picard, Data, and Spock as they escape and stop Sela's plan. The novel brings together characters from the original Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
