Eaiou is a planet inhabited by catlike beings. The Eaiouans become ill and die, and humans are also being infected. Dr. Mc. Coy is distressed. Uhura has a friend who taught her "forbidden songs." She tells Spock that the Eaiouans are not originally from Eaiou; they traveled there centuries ago. Spock and Uhura use the songs to search for the Eaiouans' homeworld, hoping to find a cure. The story is from a 1985 novel by Janet Kagan.
