Stephanie Plum is approached by a mysterious man named Diesel, who has a task for her. He needs her help finding Annie Hart, a so-called "relationship expert" who is wanted for armed robbery and assault. In exchange, Diesel offers his help, but only if Stephanie agrees to play matchmaker for some of Annie's difficult clients. As Stephanie works on the assignment, she realizes someone else is also searching for Annie—someone with dangerous skills and a short temper. Questions arise about Diesel's true motives and whether he is hiding something. With Ranger and Morelli also involved, Stephanie finds herself in a complicated and dangerous situation.
