Since her mother's death over fifteen years ago, the narrator has served as the matriarch of her family, prioritizing the needs of her two younger sisters and her ex-marine father. When her sister Nell decides to get married, the narrator takes on the responsibility of planning a wedding she hopes their mother would have approved of. Her efforts are complicated by the unraveling of her relationship with her best friend Pete, leaving her caught between family expectations and her own desires.
