The Book of Samuel is a narrative text in the Tanakh that recounts the transition from the period of judges to the establishment of the united monarchy in ancient Israel. It details the rise of the prophet Samuel, the anointing of Saul as the first king, and the subsequent rise of David, including his military successes, conflicts with Saul, and eventual ascension as king over all Israel.
