About “Livia”

Livia: Or Buried Alive is the second novel in Lawrence Durrell's The Avignon Quintet, published in 1978. The series, which spans from 1974 to 1985, features interconnected stories with the same characters appearing across the books, giving the impression of reincarnation. Durrell described the novels as "roped together like climbers on a rockface," yet each stands independently. This description of the series' structure is explicitly mentioned in Livia. The first novel, Monsieur, was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1974. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
