About “Quinx, or, The ripper's tale”
Aubrey Blanford returns to Avignon after World War II, a time of endings and beginnings. He is joined by Rob Sutcliffe and Constance, a psychoanalyst he has loved. Constance brings Sylvie, a brilliant but schizophrenic poet. They are joined by Lord Galen and the Prince, who seek the Templars' treasure hidden in Avignon's caves. Gypsies also gather for a festival, and a fortune teller sets the group on a path toward a treasure linked to Livia, Constance's dead sister. The novel is part of Lawrence Durrell's Avignon Quintet and explores the intertwining of past, present, and future. It is a 1985 novel by Durrell.
