Dreams from Bunker Hill is a first-person account beginning with the narrator's early brush with fame as a busboy at Marx's Deli in 1934, at Third and Hill in Los Angeles. At twenty-one, living in the area bounded by Bunker Hill, Los Angeles Street, Pershing Square, and Civic Center, he worked for one dollar a day plus meals while also identifying himself as a writer.
