About “Days of Magic, Nights of War”

Candy Quackenbush is a sixteen-year-old girl from Chickentown, Minnesota, who feels bored and isolated. She has a drunk father and is often mocked by others. One day, she draws a strange image in her textbook, which leads her to leave school and wander into a field with an old lighthouse. She is puzzled by its presence but soon discovers she has been transported to the Abarat, a magical archipelago with twenty-five islands. Each island represents an hour of the day, plus one mysterious island called the Time Out of Time. Candy feels a sense of familiarity in this world and makes friends, but she is being chased by Christopher Carrion, Prince of Midnight. She must find her place in this strange new world. The story is a novel by Clive Barker.
