About “The antipope”

The Antipope is a comic fantasy novel written by British author Robert Rankin. It is his first novel and the opening book in the Brentford Trilogy, which by 2020 included 10 novels. The book was first published in 1981 by Pan Books and later by Corgi Books, an imprint of Transworld Publishers, starting in 1991. While often placed in the science fiction section of bookstores, the novel resists easy categorization. Rankin humorously suggested he wanted to create a new genre called "Far Fetched Fiction" to give his work a unique place in bookstores. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
