About “Eugénie Grandet”

First serialized from 1833 to 1834 and published in book form in 1834 by Honore de Balzac. While writing it he conceived his ambitious project La Comedie humaine and prepared a second edition, revising character names so the novel fit into that project's "Scenes from provincial life" section. He dedicated the edition to Maria Du Fresnay, his lover and mother of his daughter. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
