Simon, Jane, and Barney are enlisted by their mysterious great-uncle to recover a priceless golden grail stolen by the forces of evil—Dark. They travel to a small coastal town, where they meet Will Stanton, a boy with strange powers who is also brought to help. They are unaware of the significance of the Greenwitch, an image of leaves and branches that has been cast into the sea for good luck. Their search for the grail leads to disturbing and dangerous events. In the end, a gift is revealed that temporarily prevents the Dark from rising. This is the third book in The Dark is Rising series, a 1974 novel by Susan Cooper.
