Julian, Dick, and Anne arrive at Kirrin Cottage to stay with their friend George, whose real name is Georgina, for the holidays. They intend to explore Kirrin Island but their plans are disrupted when Aunt Fanny falls ill and is taken to a distant hospital. The children are looked after by Aunt Fanny's temporary cook, Mrs. Stick, who attempts to poison George's dog. George devises a plan for the children to run away to Kirrin Island. While there, they discover signs of other people visiting the island and suspect smuggling. They also find a young girl's toys and clothes, suggesting something troubling is happening. This is a 1944 novel by Enid Blyton.
