About “The golden age”
The Golden Age is a 2002 novel by John C. Wright set 10,000 years in the future, in a solar system where humans are immortal and live in an interplanetary utopia. The story follows Phaethon, a member of the Radamanthus House, who attends a party to celebrate the thousand-year anniversary of the High Transcendence. There, he meets an old man who accuses him of being an impostor and a being from Neptune who claims to be an old friend. The Neptunian reveals that parts of Phaethon’s memory were removed by the government, which he believes to be honorable. This revelation shakes his faith and leads him to embark on a journey across the transformed solar system. Mars and Venus have been terraformed, and Jupiter has become a second sun. Phaethon travels among humans, intelligent machines, and strange lifeforms to recover his lost memories and uncover the crime that led to his punishment. His quest is to regain his true identity.
