About “Ajax”

This early Sophoclean tragedy tells the story of the Homeric hero better known as Ajax, second only to Achilles among the Greek warriors. In Greek tradition Aias dies in shame after his betrayal by the Greeks, but Sophocles portrays his suicide not as disgrace but as heroism, transcending time rather than being passed by it.
