About “Honorine”

Honorine is an 1843 novel by Honoré de Balzac, part of his larger work La Comédie humaine, which portrays French society during the Restoration and the July Monarchy. Balzac uses a layered narrative style, approaching his plot indirectly and embedding a story within a story. The novel follows a common theme of a wife trapped in a marriage, but presents it in a unique and subtle manner. It reflects Balzac’s talent for depicting social structures and human relationships. The story is part of a larger series that aims to capture the complexities of 19th-century French life. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
