About “My Heart Is a Chainsaw”

Jade Daniels is a high school senior and a devoted fan of 1980s slasher films. She lives in Proofrock, a small mountain town in Idaho, where she feels out of place because of her style and interests. The town is near Indian Lake, which is home to Camp Blood, the site of a massacre fifty years prior, and Terra Nova, a new luxury development built in a national forest. Jade believes a slasher film is about to unfold in her town. She has a deep knowledge of horror films but questions whether her expertise will help her survive. She also wonders if she wants to stop the violence and if the town deserves it. The novel explores her struggle to stay alive and her complex relationship with the horror she expects.
