Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have grown distant. Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, while Carter has traveled the world with their father, the Egyptologist Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a research experiment at the British Museum, hoping to mend their relationship. Instead, he releases the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him and forces the children to flee. Sadie and Carter soon learn that the Egyptian gods are awakening, and Set is targeting their family. To stop him, they go on a dangerous journey around the world, uncovering secrets about their family and a hidden order that has existed since ancient times.
