Murderbot, a lethal SecUnit, returns in a new novel by Martha Wells. After the events of Network Effect, Barish-Estranza sends rescue ships to a planet in danger, along with more SecUnits. However, the corporation shows no concern for the colonists, and if it cannot control the planet, it aims to take the humans as a workforce. Murderbot is acting strangely, operating outside normal parameters. The crew of ART and the humans from Preservation try to protect the colonists, but they face a powerful threat from Barish-Estranza’s SecUnits. They must rely on Murderbot to fix itself before it’s too late. The story ends with doubt about the success of their plan.
