About “Pimpernel and Rosemary”

Rosemary, the former love of Peter Blakeney, is about to marry one of Peter’s friends. A journalist, she is asked to report on the Romanian occupation of Transylvania after World War I, a place she visited often as a child with Peter’s mother. She moves her wedding so her fiancé can join her. Soon after their arrival, Peter’s nephew and girlfriend are arrested for treason, placing Rosemary in a difficult situation. Peter also arrives in the country, seemingly working against his own family. The story is set in the years following World War I, a time the author, Emma Orczy, explores by placing her fictional characters within real historical events. The novel is set in an area of the world the author knew well, having grown up in Hungary.
