About “The Temple of Dawn”
Yukio Mishima's The Temple of Dawn is the third novel in his tetralogy The Sea of Fertility. The story follows Shigekuni Honda, a brilliant lawyer, who travels to Thailand in the early 1940s. There, he meets a young Thai princess and becomes convinced she is the reincarnated spirit of his childhood friend, Kiyoaki Matsugae. Honda's belief leads him to take extreme steps to confirm his theory. The novel explores his obsessive pursuit of the princess and his deep search for spiritual understanding. It is a story of longing, belief, and the struggle between reason and desire.
