About “With blood upon the sand”

Çeda is a Blade Maiden serving the kings of Sharakhai, training as an elite warrior while completing secret missions for them. She learns about the dark past of the asirim, who were once enslaved by the kings. When she bonds with them as a Maiden, she feels their pain and suffering. The asirim long for freedom, but their chains are unbreakable due to the gods' power. Çeda may be the champion the asirim need, but she must be careful. After the Moonless Host's defeat, the kings are seeking revenge, and Çeda's friend Emre and his allies in the Moonless Host try to take advantage of the city's unrest. When Çeda and Emre become involved in a plot by the blood mage Hamzakiir, they uncover a secret that could change everything. However, Çeda must control the rising anger of the asirim and navigate the city's shifting power dynamics.

Praise for “With blood upon the sand”

“Çeda and Emre share a relationship seldom explored in fantasy, one that will be tried to the utmost as similar ideals provoke them to explore different paths. Wise readers will hop on this train now, as the journey promises to be breathtaking.”

— Robin Hobb, bestselling author of Fool’s Assassin

“I am impressed.... An exceedingly inventive story in a lushly realized dark setting that is not your uncle’s Medieval Europe. I’ll be looking forward to the next installment.”

— Glen Cook, author of The Black Company

“Fantasy and horror, catacombs and sarcophagi, resurrections and revelations: the book has them all, and Beaulieu wraps it up in a package that's as graceful and contemplative as it is action-packed and pulse-pounding.”
