Prince Lightfoot encounters Beloved and her Hunters as they march through the Axis Mundi into Luster. He is attacked and escapes through a magical barrier, choosing to go toward Earth. This leaves Cara Diana Hunter to confront Graumag, the Lady of Dark Mountain, and ask the dragons to join the unicorns in defending against Beloved's attack. The story involves a battle between forces of light and dark, with key characters taking on critical roles in the conflict.
