In 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich Accord, giving part of Czechoslovakia to Hitler. The following year, Hitler took the rest of the country and expanded further, leading to the start of World War II. In Harry Turtledove's alternate history novel Hitler's War, Chamberlain does not sign the accord. The story explores what might have happened if Hitler had acted before his army was ready. Turtledove presents the war through multiple perspectives, including American marines in China, a Jewish German family, volunteers in Spain, and a woman trying to escape Nazi-occupied territory. The novel examines the human side of war and the complex events that could have shaped history differently.
