About “Son of a Witch”

Liir hides in the shadows of the castle after Dorothy does in the Witch. Left for dead in a gully, the teen is physically and emotionally broken. He is tended by the silent novice Candle at the Cloister of Saint Glinda, who restores him with her music. Liir possesses Elphaba's broom and cape, raising questions about his identity as her son. He searches for his supposed half-sister, Nor, last seen in the prison Southstairs, and tries to fulfill the last wishes of a dying princess. In a changed Oz, Liir must navigate danger while trying to grow up. The 2005 novel by Gregory Maguire explores these challenges.
