About “The Tempest”
The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1610 and 1611. It is often considered Shakespeare’s final play written alone. The story takes place on a remote island where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, uses illusion and manipulation to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful position. He creates a storm, known as the tempest, to bring his brother Antonio and King Alonso of Naples to the island. Through his plans, Prospero reveals Antonio’s treachery, brings about the King’s redemption, and arranges the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.
