Dr. Rose Franklin discovered a giant metal hand as a child near Deadwood, South Dakota. As an adult, she led a team that uncovered the rest of the robot, named Themis, an alien machine of unknown origin. Alongside linguist Vincent, pilot Kara, and the unnamed Interviewer, she helped protect Earth from both political conflict and alien threats. After spending nearly ten years on another world, she returns to find Earth in chaos, her former allies divided, and the Earth Defense Corps in ruins. She must rebuild the organization while dealing with the betrayals of those she once trusted.
