About “Northwest Passage”
The Northwest Passage refers to the sea lane between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Ocean, near the northern coast of North America, traversing waterways through the Arctic Archipelago of Canada. These waterways, collectively known as the Northwest Passages, the Northwestern Passages, or the Canadian Internal Waters, separate the various islands of the archipelago from one another and from mainland Canada. In British English, the term is often spelled North-west Passage.
