About “The creation of patriarchy”
The Creation of Patriarchy is a 1986 nonfiction book by Gerda Lerner arguing that male dominance over women is not natural or biological but the product of a historical development begun in the second millennium B.C. in the Ancient Near East. Using historical, literary, archaeological, and artistic evidence, Lerner traces the development of the ideas and metaphors that became the basis of patriarchal gender relations in Western civilization, and argues patriarchy can also be ended by the historical process.
