In the middle of the night, a controversial U.S. senator is found murdered in his Georgetown apartment. The only clue is a mysterious rhyme signed "Jack and Jill," hinting at more crimes to come. Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., homicide detective Alex Cross is called to a murder scene near his home. The victim is a young girl, brutally beaten and left in front of the school attended by Cross's son, Damon. As Cross investigates, he wonders if the two murders are connected.
