Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Habib, commonly known as al-Mawardi, was a Sunni polymath and Shafi'i jurist who wrote on subjects including Qur'anic interpretations, religion, government, law, language, ethics and literature. He was a legal theoretician, muhaddith, theologian, and expert in political science. Al-Mawardi is considered an eminent scholar of his time. He was born in 974 and died in 1058.
