About “Al-Ahkam al-Sultaniyyah”
Al-Ahkam al-Sultaniyyah, also known as Ordinances of the Government, is a significant work on Islamic politics and jurisprudence written by the jurist Abu al-Hasan al-Mawardi. The book was translated into French by Edmond Fagnan and published in Paris in 1895. It also exists in Urdu, translated by Maulvi Syed Muhammad Ibrahim and published by Nafis Academy Karachi and Law Library Lahore. The text is divided into twenty chapters and covers various aspects of governance, including the emirate, judiciary, army, taxes, and religious duties. Al-Mawardi outlined the qualifications for a caliph, stating that Quraishi descent was one of seven required conditions. The book was originally published from Egypt.
