Al (Alastair Reynolds) is a British science fiction author and former space scientist, with both careers running in parallel for a time. He began publishing short stories in the British SF magazine Interzone in the early 1990s before moving to novels, writing about one a year plus occasional short stories. Many of his books are set in a consistent future named after his first novel, Revelation Space. Born in Wales in 1966, he was raised in Cornwall, lived in northern England, Scotland, and the Netherlands, and eventually returned to Wales.
