Alexander Bogdanov was a Russian physician, philosopher, and revolutionary of Belarusian ethnicity. He was a key figure in the early history of the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, cofounding the group and competing with Vladimir Lenin before being expelled in 1909. Bogdanov later became an influential Marxist critic of the Soviet government. He trained in medicine and psychiatry and explored scientific interests including systems theory and the potential for human rejuvenation through blood transfusion. He developed a philosophy known as "tectology," which is seen as a precursor to systems theory. Bogdanov also worked as an economist, culture theorist, and science fiction writer.
