Alexandre Dumas fils was a French author and playwright who lived from 27 July 1824, to 27 November 1895. He is best known for the romantic novel La Dame aux Camélias, published in 1848. The novel was adapted into Giuseppe Verdi's 1853 opera La traviata and has been the basis for many stage and film productions, often titled Camille in English. Dumas fils was the son of Alexandre Dumas père, a famous playwright and author of works such as The Three Musketeers.
