About “The Lady of the Camellias”

The Lady of the Camellias is a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, first published in 1848. The story was later adapted for the stage by the author and premiered in Paris on February 2, 1852. It became a major success. The novel's protagonist, Marguerite Gautier, was renamed Violetta Valéry when Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi adapted the story into the 1853 opera La traviata.
