Sulaiman Nadvi was born on November 22, 1884, in the Desna village of Patna, then part of British India. He was an Indian/Pakistani historian, biographer, litterateur, and scholar of Islam. He studied at Darul-uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow, where he was admitted in 1901 and graduated in 1906. He later taught Modern Arabic and Dogmatic Theology at the same institution. Nadvi co-authored Sirat-un-Nabi and wrote Khutbat-e-Madras, a collection of lectures on the life of Muhammad. He also authored Khayyam, a book on the Persian scholar and poet Omar Khayyam, and Rahmat-e-Aalam, a children's book about Muhammad. In 1940, Aligarh Muslim University awarded him an honorary DLitt. He founded the Dar-ul-Mosannefeen (Shibli Academy) in Azamgarh and published Ard-ul-Quran there. After the 1947 partition of India, Nadvi moved to Pakistan and was appointed Chairman of the Taleemat-e-Islami Board. He died on November 22, 1953, in Karachi at the age of 69.
