Arthur Hailey was a British-Canadian writer who was born in England. He began his writing career while serving as an RAF pilot during the Second World War. After the war, he lived and wrote in Canada, where he became a citizen. He also lived briefly in the United States. For the past twenty-six years, Hailey and his wife, Sheila, have lived in the Bahamas. His novels have been translated into thirty-nine languages, with an estimated 160 million copies in print worldwide. Many of his books have been adapted into films or television series.
