Astolphe marquis de Custine

1 standalone book

Astolphe-Louis-Léonor, Marquis de Custine (1790–1857) was a French aristocrat and writer, best known for his travel writing—in particular La Russie en 1839, his account of a visit to Russia during the reign of Nicholas I. The work documents the social fabric, economy, and way of life of the Russian Empire, and led some historians to dub him "the de Tocqueville of Russia."
