Charlaine Harris is an American author born on November 25, 1951, best known for creating the Southern Vampire Mysteries series (also called the Sookie Stackhouse novels), a blend of supernatural fiction and mystery set in rural Louisiana. The series, featuring telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse navigating a world where vampires have revealed themselves to humanity, inspired the HBO television series True Blood. Harris has also written several other mystery series throughout her prolific career as a genre fiction writer.
