Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse experiences a series of misfortunes, beginning with the murder of a coworker and an encounter with a dangerous creature that leaves her poisoned. Vampires save her by removing the poison from her body. When a vampire asks for her help, she agrees. She travels to Dallas to use her telepathic abilities to find a missing vampire. She is tasked with interviewing specific humans, under the condition that the vampires will not harm them.
