Charles Lyell

1 standalone book

Sir Charles Lyell was a Scottish geologist who demonstrated the power of known natural causes in explaining the earth's history. He is best known for his work Principles of Geology, which presented the idea that the earth was shaped by the same natural processes still in operation today. His ideas, later termed "uniformitarianism," contrasted with catastrophism and influenced scientific understanding of "deep time." Lyell lived from 1797 to 1875.
