About “Principles of geology”
Principles of Geology is a three-volume work by Scottish geologist Charles Lyell, published between 1830 and 1833. The book presents the theory of uniformitarianism, which explains changes in the Earth's surface through ongoing natural processes. This approach contrasts with catastrophism, a theory that attributed geological changes to sudden, large-scale events. Lyell's work aimed to show that current geological forces could account for past changes. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
