The Commission des Sciences et des Arts was a French scientific and artistic institute established on 16 March 1798. It consisted of 167 members, most of whom joined Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt and contributed to the Description de l'Égypte. The group included a diverse range of professionals such as engineers, mathematicians, artists, and interpreters. Bonaparte organized the commission like an army, assigning military ranks and roles to its members.
