About “Description de l'Égypte”
The Description de l'Égypte was a series of publications that began in 1809 and concluded with the final volume in 1829. It aimed to catalog all known aspects of ancient and modern Egypt, including its natural history. The work was created by approximately 160 civilian scholars and scientists, known as the savants, who traveled with Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt from 1798 to 1801. It also involved about 2000 artists and technicians, including 400 engravers, who helped compile the final work. At the time of its publication, it was the largest known published work in the world.
