Cosmas Indicopleustes was a 6th-century Greek traveller and merchant from Alexandria in Egypt. He made several voyages to the Kingdom of Aksum and India during the reign of emperor Justinian. His work Christian Topography contained some of the earliest and most famous world maps. He was a pupil of the East Syriac Patriarch Aba I and provided evidence of the presence of the Nestorians in India in the mid sixth century.
