David Roberts was a Scottish painter known for a series of detailed lithograph prints depicting the Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia, based on sketches he made during tours of the region from 1838 to 1840. He also created large oil paintings of similar subjects, establishing himself as a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841 and authored the book From an antique land. Roberts was born in 1796 and died in 1864.
