Dorothy L. Sayers (1893–1957) was a British author best known for her classic detective fiction featuring the aristocratic sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey, a series that helped define the golden age of mystery writing. Beyond crime fiction, she was a versatile intellect who also produced poetry, plays, theological essays, and a celebrated translation of Dante's Divine Comedy. Born in Oxford, she was among the first women to graduate from Oxford University and went on to become one of the most celebrated English writers of the twentieth century.
